Herkimer, N.Y. -

St. Johnsville scored in five of its first six at-bats as it beat Herkimer 7-4 in a non-league American Legion baseball game Thursday night.
The visitors chipped away scoring single runs in the first and second innings then adding two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 6-1 lead.
Herkimer tried to come back late scoring two runs in the seventh inning but couldn’t get over the top.
“They just kind of picked away at us,” Herkimer coach Paul Valasek said. “We fought back at the end to make it a ballgame. It was really a pretty well-played game.”
Peter Mackenzie took the loss for Herkimer lasting the first 4 2/3 innings and allowing six runs on seven hits with one strikeout and six walks. Ryan Sheets went the final 2 1/3 innings allowing one run and one hit.
Shane Snell was the winner for St. Johnsville, which got two hits each from Blake Hart and Taylor Hall, who doubled.
After a two-homer game in a win over Little Falls Wednesday, Myles Malta had another couple of hits to lead Herkimer.
