After finishing their season hot down the stretch, which included a win over Mohawk at home to give them a league title, the Dolgeville Blue Devils had three players recognized as All-Stars and one named the ‘Player of the Year’.
Leading the way was Zach Goyette. Goyette was named the ‘Player of the Year’ because of his play at point guard for the Blue Devils. Along with Goyette was teammates Chris Robotham (first team), Ryan Barton (second team) and T.J. Scharpou (honorable mention).
Together, Dolgeville’s group won five of their last six games and earned the #5 seed in the Class C-2 bracket. If the Blue Devils went on to the finals, a rematch between them and Mohawk could’ve happened. Dolgeville amazing season ended in the quarterfinals with a 63-42 loss to Onondaga.
Just behind Dolgeville in nominations was Mohawk and Adirondack. Both teams had three players selected to the All-Star team.
For Mohawk, Carson Murphy was first-team, Winston Smithson was second-team and Corbin Woodruff was third-team. Together, this combination went 12-0 before getting their first loss.
Mohawk also had a chance to earn their first league title in quite some time until they lost to Dolgeville in their final matchup of the season.
Where Mohawk gets the last laugh on Dolgeville is the fact that their still in sectionals. With a win over Morrisville-Eaton in the quarterfinals, the Mohicans moved to the semifinals to take on Immaculate Heart. That game was scheduled to play Thursday (2/25) but due to inclimate weather, the game was moved to today, February 27th.
Mohawk will look to their big three, Murphy, Smithson and Woodruff to push them to the finals.
As for Adirondack, their All-Stars are: Andre Adkins (first-team), Mike Conley (second-team) and Marty Candee (honorable mention). Together, these three Wildcats had an up-and-down year, but finished the season with a 11-7 record and earned the 8th seed in the Class B Sectionals. A win over Ilion got the Wildcats to the quarterfinals until Bishop Grimes sent them home packing with a double digit loss.
Rounding out the rest of the selections was Ilion, Herkimer, Little Falls and Frankfort-Schuyler.
Ilion had Tommy Moore reach first-team statis again for the Bombers. The quick and agile point guard for Ilion scored in double digits in every game but two. His biggest game was against Mohawk toward the end of the season when he scored 20 points in overtime and helped beat the Mohicans in a fifth overtime.
