The Herkimer County Community College Generals got their season started on the right foot Saturday with a 4-0 shutout of Holyoke Community College on their home turf in the Coliseum Kickoff.
The Generals scored twice in each half and got six combined saves from goalkeepers Michelle Cuomo and Rachel Abrams at Wehrum Stadium.
Poland’s Krista Stubba scored one goal and assisted on two others for Herkimer. Ashleigh Tracy added a goal and an assist; Emily Baldwin and Amanda Brown each scored a goal; and Tiffany Jones-Maxwell contributed an assist. Cuomo made four saves in the first half and Abrams had two in the second.
Dominique Fountain made three saves for Holyoke.
The Generals are back on the field Sunday for a 2:30 p.m. match against Brookdale Community College.
The Herkimer men also opened their season Saturday at Tompkins-Cortland Community College’s TC3 Northeast Cup. The Generals were beaten in overtime by Suffolk County Community College.
