Just as they did one year earlier, coaches in the Center Sate Conference settled on Little Falls Mountie Olivia Tooley as their Division I most valuable player for the 2010 season.
The Herkimer County Community College-bound senior was also the league’s most valuable player for basketball in the winter and plans to play both sports for the Generals.
Tooley started at shortstop and led Little Falls to an 8-2 mark in league play, enough to beat out Adirondack and Mohawk by one game each in race for the division title. She led the Mounties with a .409 batting average, 27 hits, 22 runs scored and 17 runs batted in. The Mounties finished the season as Class C-1 quarterfinalists in the Section III playoffs with an overall 15-6 record.
Three teammates joined Tooley as first-team all-stars. Fellow seniors Nickie Van Meter and Katie Cotton, the veteran components to Little Falls’ battery, were selected along with sophomore second baseman Jordan Mitchell who had a pair of two-home run games.
Other first-team honorees included Mohawk Mohicans Christy Traglia, Alexis Gilbert and Kelly Herlehy, all juniors; Herkimer Magicians Sarah Meszler, a senior, and Sarah Kinney, a sophomore; Ilion Golden Bombers Samantha Giruzzi, a sophomore, and Marissa Maldonado, a junior; Frankfort-Schuyler sophomore Kathryn Tamburro; and Adirondack senior LeeAnn Kiskiel and juniors Rachel Hitt and Kelsey O’Connor.
