Ilion Golden Bomber Brandon Rawson earned his place in the state championship meet with a sixth-place finish Saturday in Section III’s Class C race at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School.
Rawson, a senior, completed the 3.1-mile course in 17:46.9, 32 seconds behind individual champion Ryan Perry who helped Hannibal win the team title. Members of the championship team in each class head west to Elma to run in the state championships Saturday at Elma Meadows Golf Course along with the top five other individual finishers.
Rawson was the Class C boys’ final individual qualifier, crossing the finish line 13 seconds ahead of Clinton’s Jack Yaworsky. He will join Holland Patent teammates Barrett Celecki and Todd Stevens, Jordan-Elbridge’s Jack Gugel, Solvay’s Matt Cregan and the Hannibal runners in Section III’s Class C contingent.
Other team and individual winners Saturday included Beaver River’s Alex Hall and his teammates among the Class D boys; Ryan Manahan of Marcellus and the Westhill Warriors among the Class B boys; Nick Ryan individually leading the Fayetteville-Manlius team among the Class A boys; Erin McConnell of Fabius-Pompey and the the South Lewis Falcons among the Class D girls; Jordan-Elbridge’s Abby Gugel and the Tully Black Knights among the Class C girls; Rachel Garn of Marcellus and the Westhill team among the Class B girls; and the Fayetteville-Manlius girls with Annika Avery leading seven Hornets among the top eight finishers.
