Poland, N.Y. -

After beating Otselic Valley by 29 points on Wednesday, the Poland Tornadoes beat DeRuyter by 47 on Saturday, winning at home 63-22.

Poland (8-6) had lost four of their previous five games until the first week of February. Helping the Tornadoes to their two-game winstreak this month were Courtney Tabor and Erin Batson, who combined for 33 points on Saturday.

After Tabor and Batson, Poland had six other players score in the game. Morgen Irwin finished with six points, Natalie Powers finished with five points, Heather Pinto finished with six points, Lauren Gunderman finished with three points, Chelsea Yager finished with three points and Ashley Huckabone finished with seven points.

What also helped Poland win by so much was some excellent defense. Besides the first quarter where the Tornadoes allowed 10 points, the final three quarters saw Poland allow 12 points (five points in the second, two points in the third and four points in the fourth quarter).

Scoring most of those points for the Rockets was Amy Tucker. Tucker finished the game with 17 points, tying Tabor with the game-high in points. After Tucker, Jennifer Cox scored three points and Kelly Dunagan and Jennifer Cox scored one point.

Poland’s next game is against Madison on Tuesday. It will be the Tornadoes third consecutive home game. Poland will host the Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m.

DeRuyter’s next game is against Richfield Springs today. The Rockets will host the Hawks at 7:30 p.m.
