With Herkimer and Mount Markham coming into Mondays game with wins in their last match, both team’s came prepped and ready to show their opponent what they could do. When the match was finished, Mount Markham flexed their muscles, beating Herkimer in straight games (3-0), just like they did the last time they played, and earned their sixth away win this season.
Mount Markham (13-0) had the Magicians number on Monday. In every game that was played, the Mustangs beat Herkimer by at least eight points. In game one and three Mount Markham won 25-17 and in game two they won 25-16.
Helping the Mustangs play so well against their opponent was the fact that Brian Gurtowski, Dylan Roberts and Dan Roberts played really well in the match.
Gurtowski finished with nine kills and eleven digs, Dylan Roberts finished with one kill, 16 assists, two aces and seven digs, and Dan Roberts finished with four kills and six digs.
Herkimer (4-5) played the best that they could, but couldn’t keep any of the games close against the undefeated Mustangs. Keeping the matches from being blowouts were Vito Carbone, Pat Malowski, Trevor Roorda and Ben Wenke.
Carbone had four digs, five assists, and four service points. Malowski had two digs, four assists and four service points. Roorda had seven kills and three blocks. And Wenke had two blocks and four kills.
Mount Markham’s next match is Wednesday against the Ilion Golden Bombers. The Mustangs will look to sweep regular season play with the Bombers when they travel to Mount Markham Middle School. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
Herkimer’s next match is against Little Falls. The Mounties will host the Magicians in their Middle School gym at 7 p.m.
