Beaver River scored seven times in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally to beat West Canada Valley 11-10 in a Section III Class C-2 semifinal game Sunday afternoon.
The second-seeded Beavers (17-5) scored four of those runs after two were out. Justin Tooker’s three-run double tied the game at 10 then Jared Martin followed with an RBI single to end the came and complete the miraculous comeback.
“Shocking is about the only way I can describe it,” a stunned West Canada Valley coach D.J. Shepardson said of the loss.
West Canada (13-10) looked to be in total control after scoring six times in the fifth inning to take a 9-4 lead then adding an insurance run in the top of the seventh.
Beaver River, which will play top-seeded Fabius-Pompey in tonight’s final at Rome’s DeLutis Field, got five of their nine hits in the seventh and also drew three walks against West Canada pitchers Dan DeKalb and Tyler Porter. Porter started the inning before DeKalb relieved him and took the loss to drop to 6-3 on the season.
Tooker and Martin were the main two catalysts for the Beavers as Tooker had three hits and five RBI and Martin had two hits and drove in two runs.
Marcus Roggie relieved Martin in the fourth inning and picked up the win for the Beavers.
Austin Zacek started for West Canada and was relieved by Porter in the third inning. DeKalb then relieved in the sixth before Porter came back in the seventh.
Jordan Gross had a double and two-run homer for the Indians and DeKalb had three hits and drove in a run. West Canada outhit the Beavers 13-9 for the game. Robert McKerrow added a double for the Indians, who tied for the Center State Conference Division III title this season.
