An upstate New York man allegedly led Cattaraugus County sheriff’s deputies on a slow-speed chase and then left his horse and buggy behind while he tried to escape.

Jonas J. Hershberger, 20, was charged Monday with overdriving of animals, second-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree obstruction of governmental administration after the horse and buggy Hershberger was in control of would not stop for police for about three miles.

He allegedly led deputies through fields and into the woods, where the horse and buggy were left. Hershberger fled on foot and was later arrested at his residence.

He was arraigned and remanded to the county jail in lieu of $250 bail.
