State police have identified the person who was killed when a vehicle flipped over into a pond off state Route 5 in the town of Little Falls early Friday morning.
Bo M. Baker, 21, of Center Street, Fort Plain, was found inside the vehicle shortly before 7 a.m. after a passing motorist called Herkimer County 911 about the partially submerged vehicle, which was a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier, police said.
Police are investigating exactly when the accident occurred, but said it appears like Baker lost control of his vehicle while driving west on Route 5.
The vehicle then exited off the south shoulder of the roadway and struck a snow bank before it landed on its roof in the pond near the former Salada tea company, police said.
Police said the 911 call was placed at approximately 6:45 a.m., but it is unclear if the accident occurred Friday morning and sometime overnight.
At the accident scene police determined Baker died while he was inside the car.
Herkimer County Coroner Vincent Enea responded and had Baker’s body transported to Little Falls Hospital pending the scheduling of an autopsy.
The Little Falls Fire Department and a towing company assisted at the scene.
Rescue divers were not called to assist, according to a member of the fire department.
State police said the investigation into the accident will continue.
