State police in Herkimer are investigating a two-car personal injury accident that occurred around 6 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of State Street and North Washington Street in the village of Herkimer.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria, a marked NYSP patrol vehicle, operated by Trooper Nathan P. Harder, 30, was headed east on State Street in Herkimer enroute to a physical domestic in progress complaint. A 2009 Toyota, operated by Jessica L. Gilmartin, 30, from Jordanville, was traveling south on North Washington Street and entered the State Street intersection on a green traffic light, police said. The marked patrol vehicle, with lights activated, proceeded through a red light and struck the Toyota, police said.
Trooper Harder was transported to Little Falls Hospital for complaint of pain to neck, left shoulder and left wrist. He was treated and released. Gilmartin was transported to Little Falls Hospital for abdominal abrasion and pain, where she was treated and released.
The investigation is continuing, police said.
