The Ilion Recreation Commission has a couple of events planned, chairman Adam Fowler told the village board at a meeting Wednesday.
An Evening of Guitar is scheduled for Feb. 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the municipal building. This will include a demonstration and question and answer session.
Hidden Talent Night is set for March 29 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at the municipal building. Pre-registration will be required with a description of the act and song choices for approval. Those interested may contact the commission through the village website. Fowler and recreation volunteer Elaine Mabry said the commission had discussed the event in light of concerns raised by the village board and made plans to have 15 chaperones on hand. Village police officers have also been asked to walk through occasionally during the evening. Fowler said the event will be open to village residents; those from outside the village will be considered if there are slots available.
Mabry said she had considered organizing a children’s carnival, but has decided not to pursue that idea at this time.
Fowler said a skating trip scheduled for Sunday has been canceled due to lack of sign-ups.
In other business, the board:
• Changed a budget meeting decision to raise the fee for after-hours water department callouts from the present $30 to $125. Mayor John Stephens said it had been pointed out raising the amount so high could discourage residents from calling when they are having problems and wind up making the problem worse. Stephens recommended the amount be set at $50 instead and the board agreed. Municipal Utilities Board Chairman Larry Gookins said there should be some way to bill residents who call the village water department for problems that are actually the homeowner’s responsibility. Stephens said he would have to do some additional research on the matter.
• Approved the German Flatts-Ilion-Mohawk 2013 monitoring and reporting services proposal.
• Approved the Northland pole attachment agreement. The mayor explained that the company would pay the village to attach its hardware to village utility poles. “It’s income for us,” he said.
• Approved the purchase of new chairs for the village board room and mayor’s office at a cost not to exceed $1,000.
