James Van Der Beek might not be off TV for long. The former Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 star has been cast in the CBS comedy pilot Friends with Better Lives, TVGuide.com has learned.

The project will follow three best friends at very different stages of their lives. Van Der Beek will play Will Stokes, the smart, sarcastic partner of a gynecology practice.

Friends' Dana Klein will write and executive-produce with The Neighbors' Aaron Kaplan.

Van Der Beek's previous credits include Dawson's Creek, How I Met Your Mother and One Tree Hill.
