CSI: NY star Hill Harper has joined Covert Affairs as a series regular, TVGuide.com has learned.

Get more scoop on CSI: NY's fate

Harper, who has played Sheldon Hawkes since CSI: NY premiered in 2004, will play a cocky, young CIA station chief in Latin America on the USA spy drama. With his sights set on a promotion in Washington, he will attempt to befriend CIA operative Annie (Piper Perabo) and Auggie (Christopher Gorham), but they begin to question his intentions.

News of Harper's casting comes the same day that CSI: NY finishes its ninth season, with no word yet on a renewal. Harper's CSI: NY contract expires at the end of this season and he chose to move on, Deadline reports. CSI: NY could continue without him, as the rest of the cast is signed on for a possible Season 10, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Do you think its time for CSI: NY to throw in the towel? Or would you like to see it continue without Harper?
