The Herkimer Magicians rallied from three runs down to tie Holland Patent Monday but the Golden Knights quickly took back the lead and won 9-5.
Holland Patent (1-0) scored three times in the top of the first inning and led 4-1 in the middle of the fourth. Herkimer loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth and scored twice on wild pitches before stranding the tying run at third
    base.
Nico Ramos drove in a run for Holland Patent in the top of the fifth inning and Herkimer starter Adrian Viscomi avoided further damage with the bases loaded. Ramos’ hit put runners on first and third with nobody out; Brown stole second base as Viscomi delivered the third strike to the next batter. Viscomi got a called third strike for the second out then walked a batter on a 3-2 pitch. The inning ended with Viscomi striking out one more hitter.
Holland Patent starter Nate Palmer walked Ryan Fahy to start the bottom of the fifth and Holland Patent coach Scott Parsons called on Brandon Marsh for relief. Marsh walked Nick Marollo and the runners advanced on a wild pitch. With one out, Viscomi worked a full count against Marsh then slapped a ground ball past the Golden Knights’ diving second baseman and through the drawn-in infield to score Fahy. The Magicians then ran a double-steal and Marollo scored the tying run as Viscomi was thrown out at second base.
After Viscomi issued a walk to start the sixth inning, he was replaced on the mound by Fahy. Holland Patent bunted to advance Marsh but Fahy hit the next batter then walked two more to force the go-ahead run across the plate. Two runs came home on an error and a two-out hit by Jordon Brown completed sent the final run across the plate.
Brown had three hits for Holland Patent and drove in two runs.
The Magicians meet New York Mills at home Tuesday then visit the Marauders Thursday.
