  • Glenn Edwin Merrick, age 77, of Walnut Street, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, April 7, 2013, in his home.

  • Glenn Edwin Merrick, age 77, of Walnut Street, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, April 7, 2013, in his home.
    He was born on January 19, 1936, in Remsen, son of the late Glenn E. and Gertrude Weaver Merrick. A lifelong area resident, he was raised in Mohawk and was a graduate of Mohawk High School with the class of 1954. In 1957, he enlisted with the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1962. He then entered Potsdam University where he graduated in 1965. Mr. Merrick had worked for Nationwide Insurance Company in Utica for fifteen years. He had also worked for Kelsey-Hayes, Remington Arms and APAC. For thirteen years, Glenn served with the Army Reserve in Utica and was a thirteen year member of the Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post #25.
    To those who knew him, he was a likeable gentleman with a strong intellect. He found much satisfaction instructing the Medics with the Army Reserve before his retirement. He will be greatly missed.
    Surviving are his wife, Wilmer A. Merrick, of Utica, and his brother, Calvin E. Merrick, of Mohawk.
    A funeral service with military honors accorded by the US Navy will be held on Saturday at 4:00 PM in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. Interment in the Gerald Solomen National Cemetery, Schuylerville, on Monday at 1 p.m.
