  • Man, 66, in custody after making shooting threats in Ilion

  • A 66-year-old man was taken into custody Saturday after threatening to shoot himself and others with multiple firearms, Ilion police said.



    It was not disclosed where he made the threats, but police said they caught up with him as he was driving a vehicle at about 11:30 a.m. on West Main Street.

    It was not disclosed where he made the threats, but police said they caught up with him as he was driving a vehicle at about 11:30 a.m. on West Main Street.
    Although no guns were found in the vehicle, numerous firearms and ammunition were found and removed from his residence, police said.
    He was taken to Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare, St. Luke’s campus, for a mental evaluation, police said. Officials were not releasing his name.
    A section of West Main Street, between Barringer Road and Shull Street, was temporarily closed during the incident.
    The Ilion police Special Response Team also was involved in the case.
