  • Monroe nets 22 goals against the Generals

  • After rolling through their first four games of the season , the Herkimer Generals ran into a brick wall on Saturday against Monroe Community College at Wehrum Stadium. The Tribunes managed to net 22 goals, and gave the Generals their first loss of the season, winning 22-4.

  • After rolling through their first four games of the season , the Herkimer Generals ran into a brick wall on Saturday against Monroe Community College at Wehrum Stadium. The Tribunes managed to net 22 goals, and gave the Generals their first loss of the season, winning 22-4.
    Herkimer (4-1), minus Danielle Hulslander after injuring herself against Broome Community College on Wednesday, played very well in the opening minutes of the contest. With goals from Lauren Pescetti and Corinne Schoen the Generals jumped out to a 2-0 lead.
    After the 2-0 run, their best of the game, things got worse for the Generals. With Theresa Catteau winning most of the faceoffs, Monroe Community College turned a two-goal deficit into a  nine-goal lead (11-2).
    Helping the Tribunes to their 11-0 run through the span of 12 minutes was Mara Manson, Jillian O’Connor, Kaila Fox and Lexi Crusha.
    Stopping the run for the Generals was Pescetti. After a good defensive stand, which saw Monroe Community College get a excellent shot-on-goal, Herkimer’s Jami Murray picked the ball up and went coast-to-coast for shot on Tribunes’ goalie Mollie Zimmerman. Zimmerman deflected Murry’s shot, which went right to Pescetti for the easy goal. Pescetti’s goal would be the last for the Generals in the first half.
    Finishing the first half on another run helped Monroe Community College lead at half 15-3.
    The second half didn’t see as much scoring, but the Tribunes still outscored the Generals 7-to-1.
    When it was all over with, Monroe Community College had eight different players score for them in the win.
    Lexi Crusha had four goals and one assist, Theresa Catteau had one goal and one assist, Mara Mason had one goal and two assists, Erika Delgado had one goal, Heather Ziccarelli had two goals and two assists, Kaila Fox had four goals and one assist, Allyn Parrino had three goals and one assist and Caitlyn Kumkey had three goals.
    As for the Generals, they had two players score for them in their first loss of the season. Pescetti netted three goals, Schoen netted one and Murray earned an assist.
    In the net during the game was Beth Jennings for Herkimer and Mason Zimmerman for Monroe. Jennings finished with 14 saves and Zimmerman finished with 10 saves.
    The Generals play again on Thursday, April 8th. The Generals will host Jefferson Community College in their second to last home game of the season. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Wehrum Stadium.
