A dominant Frankfort-Schuyler defense held visiting Sherburne-Earlville to just three points, paving the way for a 12-3 victory Friday night.
Justin Coye put the Marauders (1-2) on the board with a 30-yard field goal on the first play of the second quarter, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Frankfort-Schuyler’s defense.
“Our guys up front played very, very well, and really stopped the running game,” said Maroon Knights head coach Jeff LaGase of his defensive line, which held the opposition to just 106 yards.
Junior linebacker Vinny Fumarola led the Knights (2-1) defense, contributing 12 of Frankfort’s 38 tackles.
The offense did its part, contributing a first-quarter touchdown that earned Frankfort-Schuyler a lead it would hold for the rest of the game. Quarterback Joe Cooper scored on a three-yard run. In the third quarter, the offense took advantage of a 15-yard Marauders penalty, allowing Cooper to complete a touchdown pass to junior wide reciever Gerald Post on the next play. Post scored on a 12-yard run.
Cooper completed 9 of 15 pass attempts, and Post led the offense with 143 total yards. Frankfort finished the night with 298 yards.
Frankfort will visit Notre Dame in Utica Sept 25, while Sherburne-Earlville will take on Westmoreland at home next weekend.
