  • Chateau Safflyn at Gelston Castle Estate will be home to a number of the area’s top DJs this weekend when the estate hosts its first holiday masquerade ball.
The ball will be open to individuals 18 years of age and older and will be the first in a series of special events planned to bring entertainment to the historic estate on Robinson Road in Mohawk.
“The estate has a number of events planned in the coming weeks and months, and this masquerade ball will be the kick-off to the series,” Bill Schmelcher, a member of Gelston Castle Estate’s events planning committee, said during a telephone interview. “Some of the top DJs from the Utica and Syracuse areas are coming in for the ball, so we are anticipating a great night of music.”
The ball will begin at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, and will continue until 4 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16. Advanced sale tickets are $15 each and may be purchased online at www.eventbrite.com; tickets at the door will be $20 for individuals dressed in costume and $25 for those who are not.
Schmelcher said Sounds Alive and DTS will do the sound for the event, and added there will be a laser and light show, as well as a costume contest with prizes and go-go dancers.
“It’s shaping up to be a party that is not to be missed,” said Schmelcher. “The layout is something that has to be seen. There are going to be DJs in the upper and lower levels of the chateau — throw in the light show, the go-go dancers and the costumes and it’s going to be an amazing night.”
Chateau Safflyn and Gelston Castle Estate can be found at 980 Robinson Rd., Mohawk.
Upon entering the premises on Saturday, Schmelcher said party-goers should follow the signs and cones to the chateau, which is approximately one mile down the driveway.
