    The Richfield Springs Indians ended a 10-game losing streak Friday with their 33-14 win over the Laurens Leopards.

    The Richfield Springs Indians ended a 10-game losing streak Friday with their 33-14 win over the Laurens Leopards.
    The Indians (2-10, 1-8 TVL) applied defensive pressure throughout the game and limited winless Laurens (0-11, 0-9 TVL) to seven points through three quarters, including none in the second.
    Kaity Richvalsky led Richfield Springs with 12 points, eight rebounds and nine steals. Vanessa Miller added nine points.
    Taylor Kessler scored nine points for Laurens.
    The Indians are home Monday for a non-league game against St. Johnsville. The game was rescheduled from Dec. 27.

    HERKIMER 34, MT. MARKHAM 31
    WEST WINFIELD, N.Y. — Maxine Grogan’s basket with 17.5 seconds left in the fourth quarter helped Herkimer’s Magicians secure a 34-31 win against the Mt. Markham Mustangs.
    The Magicians (8-6) overcame a slow start on the road and won for the seventh time in eight games. Mt. Markham (2-11) led 12-2 in the second quarter but Herkimer tied the score with a 10-0 run and the teams were even at 14 at halftime.
    The teams were tied for the last time at 18 before Herkimer made a 12-0 run from the third quarter into the fourth. Trailing 30-18, Mt. Markham responded with 10 consecutive points of its own and pulled within two points on Morgan Westbrook’s basket with 1:17 left to play. Kelsey Collins added a basket to make it a one-point game in  the final minute before Grogan scored with an assist from McKenzie Pine and the Magicians made one last defensive stop.
    Hannah DeLude led Herkimer with 10 points. Emily Avery added eight points, 13 rebounds and three steals while Chelsea Jory had 10 rebounds and Lillie Williams had four steals.
    Westbrook had 10 points and nine rebounds for Mt. Markham, Heather Curtin scored nine points and Angela Bartlett grabbed 24 rebounds.
    Both teams play on the road Tuesday, Herkimer at West Canada Valley and Mt. Markham at Hamilton.
