  • A Mechanicville man has been accused of stealing more than $6,000 from the Little Falls Little League, according to Little Falls police.
Edward P. Popiel, 41, was charged on March 20 with third-degree grand larceny and first-degree falsifying business records, both felonies, and second-degree falsifying business records, a misdemeanor.
The Little Falls Police Department was contacted by the Little Falls Little League Board in August 2012 about the missing money and was asked to investigate. Popiel was president of the Little Falls Little League, police said.
Popiel was arraigned in Little Falls City Court.
He was released on his own recognizance to reappear in court at a later date, police said.
The Herkimer County District Attorney’s Office assisted with the investigation.
