The Little Falls Mounties used a 40-point fourth quarter Friday to come  from behind and beat West Canada Valley 81-71 and move into a tie for second place in Division II of the Center State Conference.
The Mounties had scored only 41 points through the first three quarters and trailed by 14 after West Canada Valley’s Alex Williams hit a three-pointer to start the fourth.
Little Falls (7-5, 4-2 CSC-II) followed Williams’ only basket with a 14-0 run and tied the game at 55 on a pair of Lucas Godlewski free throws with 4:58 remaining in the game. The teams traded Indian Josh Sudakow’s three-point play for Mountie Theo Wind’s three-point basket and were tied again at 58 but Little Falls would not take a lead until Jordan Day’s layup put the Mounties on top 67-66 at the 1:51 mark. Jordan Yaworski banked in a shot for West Canada Valley and added a free throw before Wind tied the game at 69 with a jumper.
A basket and free throw by Jesse Lonis put Little Falls ahead to stay and following Yaworski’s final two foul shots, the Mounties scored the last nine points of the night, all at the foul line.
Little Falls shot 39 free throws during the game and went 19-for-23 in the fourth quarter, including a streak of 10 successful shots in a row. Tyler Baumeister, who led the Mounties with 21 points, was 7-for-8 at the line in the fourth quarter. Godlewski hit six of his last seven foul shots to complete a 15-point, 10-rebound effort.
Wind had 13 points — 10 in the fourth quarter — along with five steals and six rebounds off the bench for Little Falls. Mitchell Baumeister scored eight of his 13 points in the fourth quarter.
Yaworski scored 22 points with six rebounds, three steals and three assists for West Canada Valley (10-4, 4-2 CSC-II). Bobby Davenport added 14 points, Ryan Grogan had 11 points and four steals and Mike Sternberg had nine points and eight rebounds.
    More to come.
