    The Oneida Indians held on at the end Saturday and defeated Mohawk’s Mohicans 65-60 in the championship game at the Alliance Bank Shootout.

  • ONEIDA 65, MOHAWK 60
    The Oneida Indians held on at the end Saturday and defeated Mohawk’s Mohicans 65-60 in the championship game at the Alliance Bank Shootout.
    Mohawk had a chance to tie the game with three-pointer with a little more than one minute left to play but Mike Santillo’s shot from the left corner missed its mark. Oneida broke out for a layup at the other end and each team added a free throw to complete the scoring.
    Kyle Peck, the tournament’s most valuable player, had 22 points, eight rebounds and six assists for Oneida. Lucas Durant added 16 points and Matt Carinci had 14 points and 10 rebounds.
    Carson Murphy had 21 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots and joined Santillo on the tournament’s all-star team. Santillo scored 14 points and Kainan McCarthy, who missed Friday’s game against Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, added 16 with eight rebounds.
    The other tournament all-stars Durant, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill’s Alex Saville and Canastota’s Brad Halsey. Vernon-Verona-Sherrill defeated Canastota 57-28 in the consolation game.
    Mohawk makes its home debut Tuesday against Mt. Markham. With no junior varsity game, the varsity will tip off at 6 p.m.

    VERNON-VERONA-SHERRILL 57, CANASTOTA 28
    ONEIDA, N.Y. — The Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Red Devils led 41-13 at halftime Saturday on their way to a 57-28 victory over Canastota in the Alliance Bank Shootout’s consolation game.
    Dalton Cousin led the Red Devils (1-1) with a game-high 17 points. Nick Metzger added 14.
    Jeff Olden scored nine points for Canastota (0-2).

    ROME CATHOLIC 61, FRANKFORT-SCHUYLER 56
    FRANKFORT, N.Y. — The Rome Catholic Redwings got off to a fast start on the road Saturday afternoon and held on to defeat Frankfort-Schuyler 61-56.
    The Redwings jumped out to a 26-9 lead in the first half but let the Maroon Knights fight back to within one point at 46-45 on a Brian Fee layup with 4:31 left to play.
    Page 2 of 2 - Two technical fouls hurt Frankfort-Schuyler in the fourth quarter Brian Campbell and Connor Marchione combined to hit all four free throws after the fouls. The Maroon Knight back within three points on a Josh Long jumper with 2:43 on the clock but the second technical foul followed soon after.
    Marchione led Rome Catholic with 19 points. Caleb Blair added 16.
    Long, Fee and Mark Spina each scored 13 points for Frankfort-Schuyler.
    The Maroon Knights play at Ilion Tuesday.
