    The Dolgeville Blue Devils took the lead before halftime Saturday and never gave it back as they defaeted Galway’s Golden Eagles 40-36 in te consolation game of Canajoharie’s tip-off tournament.

    The Dolgeville Blue Devils took the lead before halftime Saturday and never gave it back as they defaeted Galway’s Golden Eagles 40-36 in te consolation game of Canajoharie’s tip-off tournament.
    Fouls started to catch up with the Blue Devils (1-1) who led by nine points after three quarters and got up by 11 in the fourth. Dpolgeville starters Tereza VanOlst and Marisa Chavez both fouled out and the Blue Devils endured a 6-0 run by Calway (0-2) that extended to 11-3 and had the Golden Eagles within one shot in the final minute.
    Lyndsey Stoehrer made the first of two free throws with 38.6 seconds on the clock to put Dolgeville back up by four points. Galway turned the ball over with a travel after rebounding Stoehrer’s miss on the secodnd shot but quickly got the ball back. Blue Devil Jackie Fake blocked a three-point attempt by Galway’s Abby Spagnola and time ran out on the Golden Eagles.
    “It wasn’t pretty,” said Shane Morrill who earned his first varsity coaching victory. “We have a lot we need to improve on but we gutted out a victory.”
    Galway had led 11-8 at the end of the first quarter but scored only two points in the second as Dolgeville took a 19-13 halftime lead. Erica Chase scored six of her game-high 13 points in the opening period but picked up three early fouls and watched much of the second quarter when Amanda Gould had the only basket for the Golden Eagles.
    Dolgeville’s 19 first-half points were spread among seven players
    Chavez scored six points and grabbed six rebounds before fouling out just over one minute into the fourth quarter. She was named to the tournament’s all-star team along with Chase.
    Mary Reardon led Dolgeville with 10 points Saturday and Crystal Barton added eight; each had five of the team’s 19 steals. Jackie Bange led the Blue Devils with 10 rebounds while Stoehrere had five points, five assists and three steals.
    Dolgeville’s junior varsity team won its first game Friday and was beaten in Saturday’s championship game.
    The Blue Devils travel to Old Forge Monday.

    Page 2 of 2 - CANAJOHARIE, N.Y. — Most valuable player Emily Parslow scored 18 points Saturday as the Fonda-Fultonville Braves defeated Canajoharie 57-43 in the championship game at the Cougars’ annual tip-off tournament.
    Emily Frollo, a tournament all-star added nine points for the Braves (2-0) and Jeananna Warner had 11 points and 11 rebounds.
    Fonda-Fultonville led by eight points at the end of the first quarter and was up 33-19 at halftime.
    Kara Schwab scored nine points and Alexis Kane had eight to lead Canajoharie (1-1).
    The Cougars take on Northville at home Wednesday.
