  • An investigation conducted by the state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Fonda, the state police Financial Crimes Unit and the state Insurance Fund recently culminated in the arrest of a St. Johnsville business owner.
Walter Davis, 57, of St. Johnsville, owner of W. Davis Insurance, was arrested and charged with first-degree falsifying business records, a felony, and fifth-degree insurance fraud, a misdemeanor.
The charges stem from a months long investigation in which it is alleged Davis issued fraudulent certificates of liability insurance to customers and accepted premium payments for those certificates and retained the payment for himself. The investigation also revealed he attempted to cover the fraudulent certificates by altering business records of the transactions.
Davis was processed without incident and was released on an appearance ticket returnable to St. Johnsville Village Court on Jan. 9, 2013.
