    Top-seeded McGraw played up to its status Tuesday and defeated the Poland Tornadoes 72-56 in the quarterfinals of Section III’s Class D playoffs.

    Top-seeded McGraw played up to its status Tuesday and defeated the Poland Tornadoes 72-56 in the quarterfinals of Section III’s Class D playoffs.
    McGraw’s Eagles (18-1) were the only team with a bye through the first round of sectionals and took a double-digit lead in the first quarter against a Poland squad that had won eight consecutive games.
    Collin Pickert led four Eagles in double figures with his 20 points. Jon Morse added 19 points, Nick Cowen had 15 and David Livitskiy scored 12.
    Mark Hennings, who went scoreless in Saturday’s first-round win against Rome Catholic, led Poland (12-8) with 18 points Tuesday. Dustin DuBrule added 13 points while Mark Shelhamer scored 10.
    The Class D semifinals will be played Sunday at Onondaga Community College’s Allyn Hall. McGraw meets the winner of a game between Cincinnatus and Lyme that has been rescheduled for Thursday. Faith Heritage of Syracuse defeated Sackets Harbor, last year’s Class D-2 and overall Class D champion, 51-43 Tuesday and awaits the winner of Wednesday’s game between New York Mills and Oriskany.
