  • The Ilion Marina is set to open Wednesday, according to Dockmaster Don Sterling.
“The fuel is in, the testing is done, we’re up and ready to go,” he told the village board at a meeting last week.
Wednesday will also mark the opening day for Voss’ at the Dockside Café. Sterling told the board he had added seven extra parking spaces and plans to fill the recreational vehicle sites near the restaurant last.
“We expect a big turnout,” he said.
The Ansul fire suppression system has been extended to cover the enlarged cooking area in the restaurant, Sterling said Friday.
New this year at the marina is a pump-out station, which has been installed thanks to a Clean Vessel Act Assistance Program grant of $16,375.47 through the Environmental Facility Corp. This is a 75 percent/25 percent grant. The program will reimburse the village $12,281 and the village has to come up with the rest through funds and/or in-kind services. The Canal Corporation had to inspect the installation before the village received the funds, Sterling told the board, adding, “Next week we’ll start filling out the paperwork to get our money back.”
Installing the stationary pump-out station will allow boaters to pump waste into a station that is tied into the village septic system, according to Sterling.
In the past, he said, a mobile station was used and the sewage was later dumped into the septic system.
There was some vandalism at the marina, according to Sterling. Vandals removed the pins from one of the docks and pushed it out into the water. It was located near Mohawk and returned to the marina.
“In another week, we’ll have boats on the docks and we’ll have RVs down there,” he told the board. “They’re our eyes and ears. We ask them to report anything they see.”
