  • Ilion police have identified the man found dead inside the residence at 31 Center St.

    Police entered the home Sunday afternoon at about 2:16 p.m. and found 36-year old Shawn D. Wilsey, a Marcy correction officer, dead inside. Wilsey’s body was moved to Little Falls Hospital and an autopsy was scheduled for Monday morning.

    Police entered the home Sunday afternoon at about 2:16 p.m. and found 36-year old Shawn D. Wilsey, a Marcy correction officer, dead inside. Wilsey’s body was moved to Little Falls Hospital and an autopsy was scheduled for Monday morning.
    The cause of Wilsey’s death is still undetermined pending the results of a toxicology analysis, police said. Police have not said if there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding Wilsey’s death. It is also unclear who called 911 to report Wilsey’s death and whether anyone lived with Wilsey at the residence.
    The Herkimer County District Attorney’s office and Herkimer County Coroner Harry Enea assisted Ilion police at the scene. A portion of Center Street was closed between Elm Street and Prospect Avenue while police conducted the investigation.
    As of 2:58 p.m. Monday afternoon, police released the scene.
    Police said no further details would be released at this time.
    Wilsey was first hired as a state correction officer in 2004 and began working at the Marcy Correctional Facility in June 2010, according to the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
