  • Police: Ilion man’s death not suspicious

  • The death of a Marcy correction officer inside his Ilion home last week does not appear to be suspicious, police said Tuesday.

An autopsy was performed Monday, but has not yet revealed how 36-year-old Shawn D. Wilsey died. Investigator Jeremiah Sninchak said police are still awaiting a toxicology report to find what substances were in Wilsey’s system at the time of his death.

There were no apparent signs of external trauma to Wilsey’s body ruling out suicide, said Sninchak.
Police found Wilsey’s body in his home at 31 Center St. on Sunday at 2:16 p.m.
Authorities are still investigating the death, as it remains an open case, said Sninchak.
Wilsey was first hired as a state correction officer in 2004 and began working at the Marcy Correctional Facility in June 2010, according to the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
