    The Amsterdam Mohawks found enough time between a one-hour rain delay and the return of the precipitation to beat the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs 7-3 at Veterans memorial Park Sunday.

    The Amsterdam Mohawks found enough time between a one-hour rain delay and the return of the precipitation to beat the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs 7-3 at Veterans memorial Park Sunday.
    The Mohawks scored five runs in the third inning and were on the field warming up for the bottom of the sixth when the game was was stopped by the return on rain to the soggy field. The lass snapped a three-game winning streak for Mohawk Valley and was the seventh for the DiamondDawgs in their last eight home games.
    Designated hitter Dylan Smith had a two-run single in the top of the first inning and went 3-for-3 with three runs batted in for the Amsterdam. Smith is 11-for-18 with five doubles, two home runs and 13 runs batted in during his five-game hitting streak.
    Mohawk Valley got a run back in the bottom of the first. Casey Rodrigue led off with a triple and scored when Landon Thibodeaux grounded out with the bases loaded.
    Shane Zimmer’s three-run home run was the big blow in the top of the third when the Mohawks scored all five of their runs with two outs. Smith drove in a run with a single and another scored on an error before Zimmer cleared the bases.
    The DiamondDawgs picked up single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Mike Fischer drove Jordan Friend home with a two-out single in the fourth. Rodrigue scored on an overthrow in the fifth after stealing third base on the front end of a double steal.
    Rodrigue was 2-for-3 for Mohawk Valley and Friend also had two hits.
    Kyle Barrett had two hits for Amsterdam. Dylan Dwyer wound up with an abbreviated complete game and earned the win for the Mohawks. Dwyer struck out six batters while allowing six hits and three walks.
    The teams are scheduled to play again Tuesday at Amsterdam’s Shuttleworth Park.
