  • The Frankfort village board authorized the submission of several grant applications, including some to expand the Frankfort Marina, during a meeting Thursday evening.
    The resolutions regarding funding for the marina state the village is “interested in continuing to expand the Frankfort Marina, improving the quality of life for all residents and visitors while continuing local economic development efforts that will lead to an increased use of the community’s Main Street.” Applications will be submitted to the 2013 New York Main Street Program through Round III of the Consolidated Funding Application Program, the 2013 New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation: Parks Development and Trails Development Programs through Round III of the Consolidated Funding Application Program and the Rural Area Revitalization Projects Program through Round III of the Consolidated Funding Application Program.
    The village will submit applications for funding as follows:
    • An application to the 2013 Community Development Block Grant Program through Round III of the Consolidated Funding Application Program and one to the Rural Area Revitalization Projects Program through Round III of the Consolidated Funding Application Program for funds to upgrade the water system and stripper plant, increasing the supply to accommodate additional businesses and economic development in the area.
    • An application to the 2013 New York Main Street Program through Round III of the Consolidated Funding Application Program and one to the Rural Area Revitalization Projects Program through Round III of the Consolidated Funding Application program for the development of Main Street small business improvement project. The funds would provide Main Street businesses match funding support for façade and energy efficiency improvements.
    • An application to the Rural Area Revitalization Projects Program through Round III of the Consolidated Funding Application Program to continue the Frankfort Housing Assistance Program to provide income-eligible residents with match funding support for housing and energy efficiency improvements.
    Grant and Essential Management Services, of Amsterdam, has been submitting grant applications on the village’s behalf.
    In other business, Mayor Frank Moracco announced the Herkimer County Historical Society is planning a wine tasting event on Aug. 4 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Balloon Farm in the village. He also reported village officials have been invited to attend opening ceremonies at the Herkimer County Fair, scheduled for Aug. 13 at 3 p.m. at the fair’s Memorial Park. Those attending are asked to bring a nonperishable food items to be donated to local food pantries.
