    The Little Falls Mounties made a fast start Wednesday and Section III’s reigning Class C champions opened their season with a 51-33 victory over Canastota’s Raiders.

  • LITTLE FALLS 51, CANASTOTA 33
    The Little Falls Mounties made a fast start Wednesday and Section III’s reigning Class C champions opened their season with a 51-33 victory over Canastota’s Raiders.
    The Mounties scored the game’s first seven points and got up 18-5 in the opening period. The initial burst lasted just 90 seconds and baskets by Gen Schoff and Kelli Shepardson with an Amy Hart three-pointer in between.
    Shepardson had a game-high 17 points with seven steals, four rebounds and three assists. Schoff, an all-state selection who averaged a double-double as a sophomore, had 16 points, nine rebounds, four steal, three assists and two blocked shots. Hannah Becker chipped in with nine points.
    The pace slowed down in  the second quarter and into the third. Canastota got within seven points at 28-21 before Little Falls scored the final eight points of the third quarter. The Mounties got up by 22 points at 47-25 in the fourth quarter.
    Shea Foster scored 15 points and Danielle Carlone had 10.
    Little Falls was a 25-24 winner in the junior varsity game.
    The Mounties’ next game is Monday against Ilion.

    DOLGEVILLE 54, WESTMORELAND 28
    WESTMORELAND, N.Y. — The Dolgeville Blue Devils earned their third win of the young season Wednesday when they went on the road and defeated Westmoreland 54-28.
    The Blue Devils (3-1) led 30-13 at halftime. Mary Reardon led the team with 11 points and Jackie Bange had 10. Marisa Chavez added seven points and eight rebounds, Tereza VanOlst and Jackie Fake each scored seven points and  Amanda Carpenter had eight steals. Lyndsey Stoehrer had five assists and three steals while Reardon and Crystal Barton each had four steals.
    Kendra McGregor scored 17 of the 28 points for Westmoreland (0-1).
    Dolgeville next plays Wednesday at home against Mohawk.

    WATERVILLE 43, MOHAWK 22
    WATERVILLE, N.Y. — The Waterville Indians had runs of 10 and eight consecutive points in the first half Wednesday and defeated Mohawk 43-22.
    The Indians (1-0) trailed before scoring the final seven points of the first quarter; Stephanie Yoxall capped the run with a three-pointer at the start of the second quarter. After Mohawk broke the run with a basket, the Indians came back with eight more points.
    Indians Kasey Spencer and Hannah Gray each scored nine points.
    Lindsey LeClair had 10 points for Mohawk (0-2).
    The Mohicans are home Friday for a game against Cooperstown.
