  • Loretta A. (Halpin) Dunn, 85, a lifelong Herkimer resident, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at Valley Health Services in Herkimer.

  • Loretta A. (Halpin) Dunn, 85, a lifelong Herkimer resident, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at Valley Health Services in Herkimer.
    She was born Dec. 17, 1927 in Herkimer, the daughter of the late Edward M. and Mary (Purcell) Halpin, and was a graduate of Herkimer High School, class of 1945. She attended the Excelsior School of Business in Utica. Loretta worked in the offices of National Desk, Standard Furniture and Library Bureau, at the library at Herkimer High School and as the church secretary at St. Francis de Sales Church in Herkimer.
    Loretta was united in marriage to James C. (Jim) Dunn on Nov. 19, 1955. They shared a loving bond for 52 years until Jim’s passing on Dec. 1, 2007. Loretta enjoyed travelling with Jim as part of the Mohawk Valley Coachmen Trailer Club, and wintering together in Florida for 14 years until his passing. Mrs. Dunn was a parishioner at St. Francis de Sales Church in Herkimer.
    Loretta is survived by a son, James F. Dunn, of Vermont; a daughter, Susan Pontius, and husband, Kevin, of Herkimer; and three cherished granddaughters, Elly, Cassie and Carly Pontius. Loretta was very proud of her nieces and nephews, Robert Gokey, Janet Todd, Mary Lynda Salisbury, Bill Dunn, Tom Dunn and Paul Bailey. She was pre-deceased by a sister, Mary (Halpin) Bailey; and a nephew, Danny Dunn.
    In keeping with Loretta’s wishes there are no public calling hours. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer, celebrated by Reverend Mark Cunningham, pastor. Burial will be in the spring at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer.
    All memorial contributions may be made to Bassett Cancer Unit in Herkimer, 321 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY 13350.
    Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer (866-1500).
