    McKenzie Pine pitched a one-hit shutout for Herkimer Friday in the Magicians’ 9-0 win over Ilion.

    McKenzie Pine pitched a one-hit shutout for Herkimer Friday in the Magicians’ 9-0 win over Ilion.
    Pine struck out six batters and walked none. She retired the first eight Ilion batters before allowing the first base-runner on an error with two outs in the third inning. She had retired 16 of 18 batters before leadoff hitter Rachel Phillips singled with one out in the sixth; Phillips was the lone Golden Bomber to reach second base.
    Ilion pitcher Rebecca Hale recorded eight strikeouts and kept Herkimer (2-0) off the scoreboard for the first three innings. The first three Herkimer batters reached base to start the fourth inning and the Magicians broke through with six runs.
    Shellbi Morris singled, doubled, tripled, scored twice and drove in two runs for Herkimer. Brianna Parks and Joy Williams each had two hits and Lindsey Parese drove in two runs.
    The Magicians play at home Wednesday against Oneida and Friday against Notre Dame of Utica; both games begin at 1 p.m. Ilion plays a game Wednesday at Whitesboro.
