    Round 1 went to New York Mills Tuesday when the Marauders defeated the Herkimer Magicians 14-10 on the road.



    The teams meet again Thursday at New York Mills.

  • NEW YORK MILLS 14, HERKIMER 10
    Round 1 went to New York Mills Tuesday when the Marauders defeated the Herkimer Magicians 14-10 on the road.
    The teams meet again Thursday at New York Mills.
    The Marauders (2-0) scored four times in the first inning and led 9-0 before Herkimer put its first run on the board. Incoming Herkimer County Community College recruit J.T. Ross homered twice, doubled and drove home six runs for New York Mills while winning pitcher Shawn Kula also rapped three of the team’s 14 hits.
    Nick Marollo made his first start on the mound for Herkimer (1-2) and took the loss. At the plate, he homered, singled and drove in three runs.

    FRANKFORT-SCHUYLER 11, ADIRONDACK 7
    FRANKFORT — The Frankfort-Schuyler Maroon Knights let a 3-0 lead get away early Tuesday but recovered and defeated the Adirondack Wildcats 11-7 to start the season.
    Junior Joe DeSarro earned the pitching victory for the Maroon Knights who briefly fell behind 4-3 before scoring twice in the bottom of the third inning. Frankfort-Schuyler added three runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth.
    The Maroon Knights open league play at home Monday after switching host dates with Dolgeville.

    RICHFIELD SPRINGS 8, CHERRY VALLEY-SPRINGFIELD 5
    CHERRY VALLEY, N.Y. — The Richfield Springs Indians overcame seven errors, 11 runners left on base and two more thrown out at home plate Tuesday and defeated the Cherry Valley-Springfield Patriots 8-5 in Tri-Valley League play.
    Starting pitcher Ben Smith struck out five batters over six innings and allowed one earned run on three hits and two walks. Kyler Mower pitched the seventh inning for the Indians (2-0).
    Richfield Springs scored three runs in the fifth inning to break a 3-3 tie. Austin Shirley’s two-run double was the big hit in the inning.
    Luke VanRiper also drove in two runs for the Indians and Smith scored three times. Jerald Gardner had two of the team’s five hits.
    Tristan Fralick scored twice for Cherry Valley-Springfield.
    Richfield Springs plays at home Thursday against Milford.
