  • The Ilion Golden Bombers came back from a two-goal deficit in the second half Friday and defeated Cooperstown’s Redskins 4-3 in regulation.



    The Golden Bombers scored first but trailed 2-1 at halftime and went down 3-1 on Alannah Haggerty’s goal early in the second half.

    The Ilion Golden Bombers came back from a two-goal deficit in the second half Friday and defeated Cooperstown’s Redskins 4-3 in regulation.
    The Golden Bombers scored first but trailed 2-1 at halftime and went down 3-1 on Alannah Haggerty’s goal early in the second half.
    Teigha Ward started the comeback with a goal midway through the second half assisted by Amanda Whittaker for Ilion. Five minutes later scored again, this time with an assist from Kathleen Kramas, and the teams were tied with 15 minutes on the clock.
    Ilion then broke the tie in the 75th minute of play when Nikki Doolen headed a crossing pass from Sarah Alexander past Cooperstown keeper Katelynn Kiuber to complete the scoring.
    Alexander had scored the first goal of the match with an assist from Ward.
    Emma Ryanmiller, who had an assist on Haggerty’s goal, scored first for Cooperstown then assisted on a goal scored by Laura Harmon before halftime. Haggerty had an assist on the goal Ryanmiller scored.
    Kiuber made 18 saves to Golden Bomber Annie Millar’s 11.
    MT. MARKHAM 8, HERKIMER 1
    WEST WINFIELD, N.Y. — Jennifer Wright and Alyssa Diffels each scored twice for Mt. Markham Friday in the Mustangs’ 8-1 win over the Herkimer Magicians in the first round of Mt. Markham’s Optimist Tournament.
    Wright also had two assists and Diffels had one for the Mustangs who will play for the tournament title Saturday at 5 p.m. against Fabius-Pompey.
    Emily Ward scored one goal and assisted on another for Mt. Markham while goalkeeper Angela Bartlett earned a shutout by making three saves. Ashleigh Butler and Taylor Luther were the other Mt. Markham goal scorers. Alyssa LaPerla contributed an assist.
    Erica Plumley made 11 saves for Herkimer and Brianne Bello had two.
    MOHAWK 2, WEST CANADA VALLEY 0
    NEWPORT — Nicole Landry scored both goals Friday as Mohawk’s Mohicans defeated West Canada Valley 2-0 in the first match of the Indians’ three-day round robin kick-off tournament.
    Adrienne Ceneviva assisted on both goals for Mohawk (2-0-0) and Brittney Macrina made nine saves in the shutout.
    Courtney Phillips recorded 11 saves for the Indians (0-2-0).
    Mohawk is back on the field in Newport Saturday for a 10 a.m. match against Vernon-Verona-Sherrill. West Canada Valley and Vernon-Verona-Sherrill square off Sunday at noon.
    WESTMORELAND 3, POLAND 2
    WESTMORELAND, N.Y. — Kendra McGregor had one goal and one assist and goalkeeper Alexa McGregor made 15 saves for Westmoreland Friday in the Bulldogs’ 3-2 win over Poland’s Tornadoes.
    Emily Gubbins and Skyler Zawko had the other goals for Westmoreland (2-0-0, 2-0-0 CSC-III).
    Alicia Maury scored a goal for Poland (1-1-0, 1-1-0 CSC-III) and Jordyn Gauthier recorded nine saves.
    Page 2 of 2 - Poland is home Tuesday for its next match against Oriskany.
