The Glens Falls Golden Eagles won twice in their final at-bats and swept Saturday’s doubleheader against the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs at Veterans Memorial Park.
The Golden Eagles came back from a 5-0 deficit to win the first game 7-5. They completed  the sweep with a 4-3 win in 10 innings in the night cap.
Glens Falls is now 3-0 against Mohawk Valley which dropped to 4-4 with the losses.
The Golden Eagles led the second game 3-2 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, Mohawk Valley’s last scheduled at-bat. Pinch-hitter Dalton Herrington drew a walk leading off and advanced to second base on a bunt. Landon Thibodeaux followed with a hit and Willie Shaw’s single tied the game.
The DiamondDawgs left runners at first and second in the seventh inning and second and third in the ninth. Cory Folk retired Mohawk Valley’s final eight batters and earned the win with seven innings of relief backing up Glens Falls starter Fernando Fernandez.
The Golden Eagles broke the tie in the top of the 10th. Buddy Putnam led off with a single and a bunt moved him to second base. Patrick Michon relieved Taylor Wright and walked the first batter he faced. Putnam scored as Garrett DeGallier was forced out at second base on Blake Sydeski’s ground ball.
Shaw had two of Mohawk Valley’s five hits in Game 2 and Joey Tracy hit his first home run leading off the third inning.
DeGallier and Bryan Ramirez each had two hits for Glens Falls.
The Golden Eagles went scoreless on one hit through five innings of the first game against DiamondDawgs starter Jared Dye. They broke through with three runs in the sixth inning then  took advantage of two errors and scored four more in the top of the seventh. Ramon Laureano’s bases-loaded single drove home the tying and go-ahead runs and Putnam added a sacrifice fly for a two-run lead.
J.Q. Folena and Emmanuel Forcier started the sixth with back-to-back hits and both scored on a double by Bryan Ramirez. Dye retired the next two batters before Putnam delivered a two-out single that scored Ramirez.
J.P. Rousseau started the seventh with a double against Mohawk Valley reliever Tyler Bray. DeGallier reached base on a throwing error that put runners at the corners. Folena bounced back to the mound and Bray caught Rousseau too far off third base. Bray threw to third and Rousseau broke for home, scoring a run as the ball squirted out of the mitt of DiamondDawgs catcher Mike Fischer.
Page 2 of 2 - The play left Golden Eagles at second and third with Mohawk Valley leading 5-4 and nobody out. Forcier was walked intentionally to load the bases and Bray struck out Ramirez on three pitches for the first out. Laureano then slapped a pitch from Bray over the first base bag and sent two more ruins across the plate to give Glens Falls the lead.
Riley Stephenson pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh to save the win for the Golden Eagles.
Jordan Friend’s grand slam had given Mohawk Valley a 4-0 lead in the second inning. Matt Portland walked Herrington to start the inning and Shaw doubled for the first hit of the game. Another walk to Trey Hunt III loaded the bases for Friend who lined a pitch into the net above the left field fence.
The DiamondDawgs added a run in the fifth on a two-out single by Dalton Herrington.
Friend’s grand slam was the first hit by a DiamondDawg in the third year Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League. There had been a total of 10 in the league’s first two years, including one by current DiamondDawg Rodrigue in a playoff game last summer while playing for the Golden Eagles.
Mohawk Valley play on the road Sunday in Elmira. The DiamondDawgs are home Monday for a 10:30 a.m. exhibition against the Staten Island Tide of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League.
