  • Mustang Cody Evans broke loose on a fourth-down run for a touchdown and broke a scoreless tie in the second quarter Friday to set Mt. Markham on course for a 14-8 win against Clinton’s Warriors to start the season.

    Mustang Cody Evans broke loose on a fourth-down run for a touchdown and broke a scoreless tie in the second quarter Friday to set Mt. Markham on course for a 14-8 win against Clinton’s Warriors to start the season.
    Evans ran for 137 yards, John LaPerla added 66 and each scored a touchdown in the second quarter for the Mustangs. Evans’ 57-yard run on fourth down gave the Mustangs a 6-0 lead and they took a 12-0 lead into the locker room at halftime following LaPerla’s one-yarder.
    Zach Aney tackled a Clinton ball-carrier in the end zone for a safety in the third quarter and completed the  Mt. Markham scoring.
    In addition to Aney’s safety, the Mt. Markham defense got 10 tackles each from Josh Holtham and Josh Diehl and interceptions from Lance Treen and Colton Evans.
    The Mustangs play at home again Friday against Canastota.
