  • Multiple police agencies are investigating a robbery that occurred late Monday morning at First Source Federal Credit Union in Herkimer.
Herkimer Police Chief Joseph Malone said the alarm sounded at about 11:20 a.m. and shortly after officers responding to the scene secured the building at 510 W. State St.
“We are looking for two suspects. One is a black male, approximately six feet tall with two earrings in each ear, wearing a red hat and having a thin build. The other subject is a shorter, lighter-skinned male,” Malone said early Monday afternoon. “That is the only description we have at this time.”
Malone said the two men presented a note to one of the tellers, did not display a weapon and fled the credit union northwest on foot toward the Herkimer Wal-Mart.
He also said police do not believe a vehicle was involved.
Malone added it was unclear how much money the two men took from the credit union, and that no one was injured during the incident. He said the credit union would remain closed Monday.
Kristy Nole, vice president of marketing and communications for First Source, also said early Monday afternoon no weapons were displayed during the robbery and no one was injured.
She confirmed the Herkimer branch was closed Monday while the investigation continued and asked First Source customers to visit one of the credit union’s other locations.
Herkimer police are being assisted in their investigation by state police, the state Division of Parole, the Ilion, Little Falls, Mohawk and town of Frankfort police and the Herkimer County Sheriff’s Office.
Malone said the customers who were in the credit union at the time of the robbery were taken to the police station so officers could secure statements from them He also said police would secure statements about the incident from the First Source employees who were at work Monday morning.
As of late Monday afternoon no arrests had been made.
Police, however, released enhanced security photos of the two men who robbed the credit union early Monday evening and established roadblocks at various points to assist with the search.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Herkimer police at 866-4330.
