  • Here’s what happened at the debate between Vice President Joe Biden and Congressman Paul Ryan:
    - It was a role reversal of sorts from the presidential debate, as Biden came off much more aggressive than his running-mate, President Barack Obama, and Ryan came off more restrained than his running-mate, Mitt Romney.
    - Near the end of the debate, moderator Martha Raddatz asked if the candidates were "ashamed" of the way the 2012 election season has been playing out, and both candidates agreed - and blamed each other.
    - Biden touched on a Romney quote that Obama didn't: "47 percent." Talking about the so-called 47 percent, Biden said, “These people are my mom and dad. They pay more effective tax than Gov. Romney pays with his federal income tax.”   - Some of the most memorable quotes of the night:
-- "With all due respect, that's a bunch of malarkey." - Biden, responding to a Ryan comment about the Obama adminstration's "leadership" problem in the Libya situation.  -- "I think the vice president very well knows, sometimes the words don’t come out of your mouth the right way.” - Ryan, responding to Biden's comments on the 47 percent and alluding to Biden's own slip-ups.
