  • Three teens were arrested Tuesday after an investigation into a fire Monday night at the Morgan-Duofold complex, according to Ilion police.
Two Ilion males, ages 16 and 18, and an 18-year-old female were all charged with third-degree criminal trespass.
The two 18-year-olds were released on appearance tickets returnable in Ilion village court on June 13.
The 16-year-old was arraigned in village court on the criminal trespass charge and on an unrelated active arrest warrant for two counts of making graffiti and two counts of criminal mischief. He was released on his own recognizance.
The names of the individuals are being withheld due to their ages.
Ilion firefighters responded sometime after 9 a.m. Monday to a report of a fire at the Morgan-Duofold complex, according to fire Chief James Trevett. Youths who were in the area called in the report, he said.
“We went down and made entry,” said Trevett. “We found a fire in the basement. We searched the building, but didn’t find anything else.”
He said the fire was extinguished quickly using a water can and firefighters were on the scene for about an hour or so.
The Herkimer Fire Department was placed on standby while Ilion firefighters were on the scene.
This isn’t the first time Ilion firefighters have responded to a fire at the Morgan Duofold site. In mid-March, they responded to a report of a fire at the building and arrived to find some 11 different fires burning in various locations throughout the complex. The fires were termed suspicious in origin and the matter was turned over to Ilion police.
Throughout the years, firefighters have been in and out of the structure, Trevett said. He added that the owner, Morgan-Duofold, has responded promptly when contacted about a window or door being open and have made repairs as needed, but people still find their way inside.
