  • Former Little Falls Police Chief Gregg DeLuca was sworn in as the Yorkville chief of police on Monday afternoon.
DeLuca retired from the Little Falls department in 2008.
DeLuca is the right man for the job, said Mayor Anthony Leone, Jr. “He’s been around for a long time and he has great ideas,” he said. “I’m confident we’re moving in the right direction.”
The village voted in December to not dissolve their police department and hand over responsibility to the Oneida County Sheriff’s office.
In July, the village board voted to make sure the police chief would be a full-time position.
The village considered hiring former Oneida County Stop DWI coordinator Michael Colangelo, but Colangelo could only work part-time.
Colangelo was hired as the New York Mills police chief last month.
Yorkville resident and Neighborhood Watch Treasurer Norman Seakan said he is happy with the new chief. “He has very impressive credentials and if he can’t improve it, I don’t know who can,” he said.
