  • The three percent January sales tax distribution in Herkimer County totaled $5,091,188.39, an increase of $252,531.88 from the January 2012 distribution.
    The total distribution to the 19 towns was $69,519.07 more than a year ago, with the 10 villages receiving $14,650.08 more, the city of Little Falls receiving an additional $11,187.20 in sales tax revenue and the county receiving $157,175.53 more for the quarter than in 2011.
    Herkimer County Administrator James Wallace on Monday afternoon said total sales tax to date for fiscal year 2012, without adjustment, came in 4.4 percent higher than 2011’s actual.
    “This percentage was close to $700,00 over last year,” he said in an email. “Using that number helped this year’s property tax increase to stay under one percent.”

    The total distribution to the county was $3,168,755.34.
    The county distribution included $250,000 for a highway reserve fund.
    The one percent withheld for Medicaid totaled $1,693,926.25 for the quarter, $80,143.36 more than the amount withheld for the county’s Medicaid costs in the January 2011 disbursement.
    The quarter percent withheld for the construction of a new county correctional facility totaled $423,479.97 for the quarter, $20,034.24 more than the amount withheld in January 2012.
