  • Thruway construction suspended for Memorial Day traffic

  • Construction on the state Thruway will be suspended this weekend to facilitate Memorial Day weekend traffic, a news release stated.

  • Construction on the state Thruway will be suspended this weekend to facilitate Memorial Day weekend traffic, a news release stated.
    Each section of the Thruway will suspend traffic at slightly different times. The schedule is as follows:
    • Exit 1 (Yonkers) to Exit 18 (New Paltz) on I-87 -- construction suspended from noon Thursday through 10 a.m. Tuesday
    • Exit 19 (Kingston) on I-87 to Exit 29 (Canajoharie) on I-90 -- construction suspended from noon Thursda through noon Tuesday
    • Exit 29A (Little Falls) to Exit 44 (Canandaigua) on I-90 -- construction suspended from 7:30 a.m. Friday through 8 p.m. Monday
    • Exit 45 (Rochester) to the Pennsylvania line on I-90, and the Niagara Thruway I-190, from Exit 53 (Buffalo and I-190)  to the North Grand Island Bridges -- construction suspended from noon Thursday to 10 a.m. Tuesday
    Police officers will be conducting additional safety patrols this weekend as well, as part of the 14-day “Buckle Up New York" campaign.
    Thruway Authority Executive Director Thomas Madison said he urges all New Yorkers to "make safety a part of their travel plans."
    All 27 travel plazas along the Thruway also will be open this weekend for travelers, the release stated.
