  • Gelston Castle Estate will host a free open house Saturday to give area residents an opportunity to view concert footage from past tribute nights, as well as from upcoming events.
The open house will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. in the performance hall of Chateau Safflyn.
“This is not an open house of the mansion, but an opportunity for the public to see what people have been taking about, especially when it comes to our tribute nights,” said event planner Bill Schmelcher during a telephone interview Tuesday. He added a second open house will take place in the spring and will allow attendees to tour the mansion once renovations have been completed.
Saturday evening’s open house will showcase performances by John Denver, the Bee Gees and Neil Diamond, who were highlighted during pervious events at Chateau Safflyn, as well as performances by Shania Twain, AC/DC, Elton John, Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey, Pitbull, Beyonce, Meatloaf and Michael Jackson, who will be highlighted during future tribute nights at Gelston Castle.
“Unless you are lucky enough to have a front row ticket for a concert, you are likely going to watch a video screen when you go to see your favorite performers. What we are able to do here with our large video screen and our sound equipment is give people a front row seat and the people who came out for our tribute nights for John Denver, the Bee Gees and Neil Diamond said they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. They said it was like seeing them live,” said Schmelcher.
He added one to two song clips from each performer will be screened during the open house.
“We’re going to start with John Denver because he was the subject of our first tribute night and then we are going to continue with the Bee Gees and Neil Diamond,” said Schmelcher. “After Neil Diamond the rest of the artists will be mixed together in what will be a memorable show.”
Snacks and beverages will be available at a nominal fee.
For more information on the open house, Schmelcher encouraged residents to go to the Open House Free to the Public @ Gelston Castle Facebook page or to call him at 235-9988.
Gelston Castle Estate is located at 980 Robinson Rd., Mohawk.
