The Herkimer County Hunger Coalition’s annual elementary school food drive will take place March 25 through March 28.
Participating schools and the products they will collect are as listed: Herkimer Elementary School (canned vegetables), Benton Hall Academy in Little Falls (pasta), Fisher Elementary School in Mohawk (canned fruit), Frankfort-Schuyler Elementary School (canned soup) and St. Francis de Sales Parochial School in Herkimer (macaroni and cheese).
Several thousand dollars worth of food is collected each year and is distributed among the Herkimer-Mohawk, Frankfort-Ilion, Little Falls, Dolgeville, Kuyahoora Valley, Van Hornesville and Shepard’s Table food pantries.
“I couldn’t be more proud of the students, faculty, staff and administration of our participating schools — not only for their efforts on our behalf, but for their many other charitable activates that go unrecognized,” said Ray Lenarcic, Herkimer County Hunger Coalition founder. “Learning about the importance of helping others is a lesson the children will find useful throughout their lives.”
The Herkimer County Hunger Coalition also announced Herkimer Elementary School and St. Francis De Sales Parochial School are its Gold Star Banner winners for 2013.
Previous winners included Benton Hall Academy, Fisher Elementary School and Frankfort-Schuyler Elementary School.
