  • Mrs. Joyce L. Grandshaw Borchert, 80, formerly of Marshville Road, town of Canajoharie, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at the Folts Homes in Herkimer, with her family by her side.

  • Mrs. Joyce L. Grandshaw Borchert, 80, formerly of Marshville Road, town of Canajoharie, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at the Folts Homes in Herkimer, with her family by her side.
    Born on July 13, 1932, in Pittsfield, Mass., she was the daughter of the late George and Frances Harvey Grandshaw.
    An area resident since childhood, Joyce attended Johnstown schools and moved to western Montgomery County in 1950.  She worked for the Luxuray in Fort Plain before owning and operating Borchert Brothers Farm along with her husband. She was a life member of the Seebers Lane Grange and the Farm Bureau Women. Joyce was also an active member of the Freysbush United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
    On April 30, 1950, she was united in marriage to Ward H. Borchert. Together for 60 years, that union ended on July 4, 2010. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Doris Kretser, Arthur Grandshaw and William Lusk, and a grandson, Shane Borchert.
    Survivors include two sons, Daniel W. Borchert and his wife, Cindy, of Cherry Valley, and Timothy A. Borchert and his wife, Cindi, of Fort Plain; one daughter, Lori Hajczewski and her husband, Tom; friend, Holly Craver, of Fort Plain; one brother, George Grandshaw and his wife, Lucy, of Scotia; four grandchildren, Joshua (Christine Demitraszek) Borchert, Jennifer (Conway Bishop) Borchert, Sarah (John McGrath) Borchert and Kelly (Johnny Fernandez) Borchert; two great-grandchildren, Payton Bishop and Kristofer Borchert; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
    Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Freysbush United Methodist Church with the Rev. Alan Griffith presiding. Interment will follow in the Freysbush Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday, May 24, 2013, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home.
    The family wishes to thank the staff at the Folts Home for their excellent care, support and love for the last twelve years of Mrs. Borchert's life.
    Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Borchert's memory to the Folts Foundation, Freysbush United Methodist Church or The Salvation Army in care of the funeral home office.
