  • The Frankfort and Frankfort Hill volunteer fire departments conducted their annual memorial service Wednesday evening at the firehouse.
The ceremony was originally scheduled to take place at the Firefighters Memorial Park on Litchfield Street, but was moved indoors due to the rain.
Firefighters, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts and local officials took part in Wednesday's ceremony. Steve McMurray served as master of ceremonies and Herkimer County Legislator Peter Manno spoke.
Manno praised the firefighters for the time they put into training and for being willing to put themselves at risk to help others.
“These are all volunteers,” Manno said. “They receive no pay for their services.”
He pointed out the Frankfort Fire Department has been serving the community for 133 years.
